Pre Valentine's Day Mixed Pairs Competition Triples /Trophy Event
The terrains were prepared and thirty eager members arrived to take part. As per normal there were more ladies than gents. The twelve men were drawn with a lady into pairs. Of the remaining ladies, four were drawn into two pairs and the final two ladies drawn to make up two triples teams. This meant there were 14 teams altogether. The weather conditions were excellent with the sun shining and the temperature high for the time of year.
Let play commence.
In the first round there were some close and competitive games. When the scores were registered Carol McD and Ian lead the way after a 13 - 9 win over Ruth and Jim. At this point David Boyne arrived and he was added to a pair who had lost their first game. Could he change their fortunes?
The second round continued with the same close games - with one exception Carol G and Colin played excellently to beat opponents Cheryl and Brian by 13 - 0. Fanny Trophies here we come!
In another game the triple team of Carol C, Patricia and Ken fought back from 11 - 0 down against Christine W and Harry to take the honours 13 -12. Well played. This gave them two wins and +3 points. Carol McD and Ian won their game to consolidate their lead at two wins and +14 points. Also on two wins were Lucy and Chris H and +5.
In the third round the leaders were paired against Cheryl and Brian. The previous round Fanny winners came charging back and won by 13 - 9. The triples team also lost 13 - 7. This left the way open for Lucy and Chris and their 13 - 7 win meant they won the day with 3 wins and +10. This is the second year Lucy has won the competition, Can I partner her next year !
Seven teams finished on two wins which shows that the games were well contested.
By the way David had no influence as the team lost all three games.
So to the club house.
Lucy and Chris received their trophies and chocolates as winners. Ian had great pleasure in awarding the Fanny Trophies to Cheryl and Brian. If Ian and Carol McD had beaten them they would have won the trophies. That's sport
Chris handed his chocolates around and Lucy kindly passed hers to Harry to give to Anne. Anne and Harry also pass on their thanks to Stuart who sent them some beautiful flowers and to all who sent their best wishes and gifts.
Margaret Hill brought cake for her birthday. It was nice too.
